The French hi-fi landscape is about to change scale. Belgian group Barco, world leader in cinema projection, has announced an agreement to acquire VerVent Audio, the holding company behind Saint-Étienne speaker maker Focal and British brand Naim.
The deal marks a major turning point for the Saint-Étienne brand. While Focal is passing into foreign hands, the acquisition follows a logic of industrial synergy: Barco, historically a master of the image, now intends to build a complete ecosystem in which French acoustic know-how becomes the sound backbone of its high-end solutions.

For the French brand, the move brings technological firepower and a global distribution network, both essential to make its mark in the ultra-premium segment. Beyond the economic stakes, it is the future of acoustic “Made in France” that is on the line, between preserving its craft identity and becoming part of a European audiovisual giant.
