Alex Keeper releases My Pocket, a single born from a week spent in Italy and from missing someone.
Alex Keeper hardly needs an introduction any more. For five years he has kept up the same pace, a single every few months, no jolts, no silences. A consistency that has ended up shaping a sound you can recognise within a few bars: bright, slightly hazy, never where you expect it.
He is back with My Pocket, out on 9 October on Inside Records, and the track tells a story everyone has lived without ever really telling it. That moment when you are exactly where you should be, when everything is beautiful, and your mind still drifts off towards someone who stayed somewhere else. Rather than mourning the distance, Alex Keeper sets it spinning.
The producer explained the origin of this gem himself, on camera, from Italy where he was staying. “This song is about missing someone when you’re travelling. I’ve been here for a week, and I’m starting to miss this person.”
The voice is soft and hushed, set in an ethereal treatment that lets it float above everything else. Underneath, warm, enveloping chords, a supple house groove, and a track that drops us into a pressure-free world for two minutes and forty-five seconds.
After In My Soul, Better and Every Lifetime, his writing is becoming more and more personal. What comes next? He’s keeping it in his pocket.
