Close-up of a smile, the recurring visual on Swimming Paul’s covers

A smile for a face: Swimming Paul releases Smiling Through The Pain 3

You’ve definitely seen that mouth. It has been the cover of almost every one of his tracks from the start. The French producer releases the third instalment of his series this Friday, 9 October: fifteen tracks on Headroom Records.

Since launching the project in 2023, Swimming Paul has never released a press photo or shown his face on social media. An anonymous lower half of a face takes its place, repeated from release to release until it became more recognisable than any portrait could have been. We first covered him in 2023, with his second single.

For months, the name Michael Calfan has kept coming up, and those who have seen Swimming Paul at festivals no longer have any doubt. Officially, he has never confirmed or denied anything.

The mystery hasn’t held him back. Tiësto brought him in on “VHS RAVE”, Billboard named him its rising dance artist of the month, and his ten most-played tracks alone have passed 137 million streams on Spotify.

Fifteen tracks make up this third volume, featuring EV, LP Giobbi, Malaki and Bobbie Johnson. The vinyl follows on 16 October, and a few randomly selected copies hide a “Swimming Pass” giving lifetime access to all his headline shows.
