Billed as a revolution for sound design, Xfer Records’ Serum 2 marks the return of one of the most popular software synthesisers in electronic music. This long-awaited update brings a redesigned engine, an expanded sound library and new features.
Since its launch in 2014, Serum has become a benchmark thanks to its wavetable synthesis engine and intuitive workflow. Serum 2 goes further with a new oscillator section featuring wavetable, multi-sample, sample, granular and spectral oscillators. These options open the door to a wider sonic palette, with brand-new possibilities for modulating and transforming sound.
Among the improvements are two independent filters that can be routed in parallel or in series, an arpeggiator with a pattern mode, a fourth envelope generator, and new distortion and filter modes. Serum 2 also adds new effects such as the Bode Frequency Shifter and a convolution reverb, offering even more sonic flexibility.

Good news for existing users: Serum 2 is a free update, with lifetime updates. For new buyers, it is available for $189 until 1 June (standard price: $249). A demo version can also be downloaded to explore its new capabilities.
With an even more powerful sound engine and new features, Serum 2 establishes itself as a must-have for electronic music producers. More flexible, more intuitive and still ahead of its time, it cements its place among the benchmark software synths.
