A LEGO Minimoog, with working keys, rotary knobs and even a removable control panel? That’s the crazy but brilliant idea of an electronic music enthusiast, eliot.obrien, who has recreated one of the most legendary synths in history at 1:1 scale.

Submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform, the project reinvents the legendary Minimoog Model D, released in 1970 and considered the first synth sold in shops. An instrument that has shaped generations of producers, from prog rock to jazz, funk and house. With more than 6,300 supporting votes, it is closing in on the 10,000-vote threshold that could push LEGO to actually bring it to market.

As well as its ultra-faithful design, this LEGO version includes visible circuits and components under the control panel, a technical touch that will appeal to musicians and collectors alike. For now it is only a concept, but if the enthusiasm keeps up, this miniature synth could well join LEGO’s other music sets.
