November, a superb month for the new French electro scene: after Kungs, it’s Breton artist Broken Back’s turn to land in the record shops with a debut album bursting with freshness.
At 23, Jérôme Fagnet is one of those young, fast-rising singer-songwriters who can treat themselves to a debut album. Somewhere between a touch of electro and folk sounds, Broken Back’s music has already won over an enthusiastic audience; his first EP racked up nearly 40 million plays on Spotify.
Two years earlier, Broken Back would never have imagined such a craze, since it was after a lower back problem left him unable to carry on with his career (hence his name, Broken Back) that he turned to music. A blessing in disguise, which now allows him to live fully from his passion.
The release of this debut album is therefore a godsend for the Breton artist. Ten songs, all written during his recovery, make up Éponyme: an album that is deeply moving and full of energy at the same time. In the same spirit as “Happiest Man on Earth”, some tracks such as “Excuses” and “Seven Words” are clearly destined to lodge themselves in our heads, and most likely among the hits of the end of the year too.
His unique vocal signature and appealing guitar have become a true trademark, guaranteeing Broken Back success and peace of mind.
