Thomas Thierry, better known by his stage name Kartell, has died. News of his passing was shared on his social media on Wednesday 26 March, with no details given on the cause of his sudden death. The first artist signed to the Roche Musique label, Kartell was an iconic figure of the French electronic scene, alongside artists such as FKJ, Darius and Cézaire.
Since his first EP, Riviera, in 2012, he had forged a style blending house, nu-disco and R&B, defined by a distinctive groove. His last project, the deluxe version of the album Everything Is Here, released on 21 February 2025, reflects his artistic maturity and his exploration of new sonic dimensions. Settled for the past few years in his home town of Tours, he had built a basement studio there where he was working on a new EP.
The news of his death has deeply moved the music community, leaving a huge void in the French electronic landscape.
